Product Question

How much does ViS Hood and Trunk weight?

Our hoods and trunks are ultra-light weight. The average weight of each hood is about 15 lbs. Of course, hoods for bigger car models or trucks will weigh more, but they are definitely much more lighter than the originals. Trunks and hatches are even lighter as it is smaller than a hood. Average weight is about 13 lbs.

What is involved to install VIS bodykits?

All bumpers, side skirts, spoilers, or hoods require professional installation. That means that these parts need to be done by experienced body shops that have done bodykits before, not just a regular collision shop. Due to the fact that these are aftermarket parts, some modifications of the parts and/or vehicles maybe necessary. Make sure an installation fit has been done first before priming and painting. Once painting has been done, it is very difficult to modify to fit without destroying the paint. You would have to paint again! Generally speaking, our kits do not have fitment problems. Some bumpers are made to the Japanese spec of some car models. In these cases, more modification may be involved. When in doubt, please call/email us. We are more than happy to answer your questions.

Fiberglass parts are manufactures only uses hand-laid which is more labor intensive but the quality of the fiberglass is far superior. Fiberglass parts have a primer finish, which can be sanded and painted on. A primer coat, sanding, trimming, cutting, shaving, refilling, remolding, removing reinforcement bar or shock absorber may be necessary to ensure proper fitment. In some case the use of professional heat gun maybe necessary for achieving proper fitment. All Aftermarket Fiberglass body kit parts do require pre-fitting onto the car before they are painted and installed.

What set VIS Carbon Fiber hoods apart from other hoods in the market?

Our grade "A" carbon fiber hoods are the best in the industry. Each hood is built with a strong carbon fiber skeleton. The outer layer is hand-laid with carbon fiber along with several layers of clear coating that provides the Hi-gloss show-quality finish that other hoods just cannot imitate. The outermost layer of clear coats is a UV coating that protects it from the harmful rays of the sun. Unlike other hoods in the market, our hoods do not fade and turn yellow in a few months. The underside of each OEM hood is reinforced fiberglass with a one-piece fiberglass covering the underling skeleton to provide a clean factory look. We also have double-sided carbon fiber hoods whose skeletons are covered with carbon fiber for more refined look.

What kind of materials are used to make VIS bumpers?

All bumpers and bodykits in general are made out of fiberglass unless stated otherwise. Several layers of fiberglass are used to insure strength and durability of each bumper. Each bumper is primered with a smooth yellow finish. New and improved PolyFiber material has been developed that is as flexible as polyurethane but still made out of fiberglass. See FAQ question related to it below.

Do I reuse the hood struts / trunk spring or struts?

The gas struts that support some hoods, as well as the gas struts/ tension rods that support all trunks, create an immense amount of pressure, which aids in opening and lifting heavier OEM hoods/trunks/hatches.  The products from the factory are not a composite part like our products, so the tensile strength that those struts/rods produce, is designed for the rigidity and weight of those OEM products.  What that will cause is ill fitment, bulging, and sometimes, and in some severe cases, cracks.  If any of these happen, you would have to remove both struts/rods immediately, and put a heavy object over a towel or protective layer, over the problem area and let it stay in the sun, for a few days and that could potentially level out the product again, IF it was not like that for a while.

Is my Carbon Fiber Hood defective?

All carbon fiber products require professional installation. Minor adjustments may be necessary for installation. These are considered typical body work and installation steps; the item is NOT defective. In addition, most carbon fiber products are hand-crafted so no two items will be identical. Small imperfections such as wave within the weave, small bubbles, and clear coat blemishes are inevitable and will not be subjected to returns and/or exchanges.

All hoods require professional installation. Adjustment of, but not limited to, latches, hooks, or fenders may be necessary as part of the normal installation of all hoods. All hoods require hood pins for safety reason. All hoods cannot sustain any force or weight on the surface. Do not put weight on the hood surface as it could crack the hood.

Fiberglass parts (Bodykit, hood and trunk) are manufactures only uses hand-laid which is more labor intensive but the quality of the fiberglass is far superior. Fiberglass parts have a primer finish, which can be sanded and painted on. Excessive Gap with the hood instal?

Adjustment is required for any hood installation.   Gap really isn’t too bad, and can be fixed, it’s just how meticulous you are with adjusting.  To do it correctly (this is even if you put your factory hood back on), you would have to loosen (not remove) the all the bolts attaching the hood to the hinges to get that lined up initially.  Once that’s complete, you will close the hood and check that there is not excessive tension on the front latch.  If there is, you would loosen that and adjust until it closes like the factory hood.  Do not gravity drop the hood to get it closed, or press on the front too hard (or press over and over) to close it.  Adjust pressure with your palm over the latch area until it latches.

Shipping Questions

What do I do when I receive the shipment from trucking company?

When receiving shipments via truck, it is important to understand and accept the obligations of being a receiver of freight. To make the delivery go smoothly, follow the below guidelines:

Before signing the carrier’s delivery receipt:

  1. Count the number of cartons and verify the number being shipped from the receipt.
  2. Visually inspect the physical condition of the cartons for any rips, tears, punctures, crushed corners etc. You must notate these discrepancies on the delivery receipt before you sign and accept the shipment. Failure to do so will imply you have received the shipment in good condition, by which you have accepted complete responsibility and liability for the contents.
  3. If damaged is discovered after the driver has left, contact the shipper and carrier IMMEDIATELY. Keep the packaging and damaged contents for later inspection.
  4. If the cartons are heavily damaged, you have the option of refusing the delivery. Please write “Refused Due to Damage” on the receipt, then sign appropriately.

Please take the time to examine the condition of the cartons before signing and accepting the delivery. The shipper and the carrier cannot be held liable if the proper notations do not appear on the delivery receipt.
